DINA MITRANI GALLERY

The gallery’s mission is to create a platform where artists and art enthusiasts have the opportunity to appreciate and engage in artistic dialogues created by emerging and established photographers. Collaborations with independent curators and other art institutions to produce important photo-based exhibitions are an important element of the gallery’s program. Advisory services are available to novice and established collectors, both private and corporate.

Miami, Florida, USA

After 20 years of experience in the international art world based in New York and Miami, Dina Mitrani opened her gallery in November of 2008 focusing exclusively on photography.  Dina and her family have been working to help make the Wynwood Art District a thriving arts community.  In what used to be her father’s clothing factory for 40 years, they have created artist studios, galleries and the Un-Parking Lot, an enclosed outdoor space available for events.

MARINA FONT

 MENTAL MAPS

January 12th to March 18th, 2017

Dina Mitrani Gallery is pleased to present Marina Font’s Mental Maps, a photo-based mixed media exhibition that depicts the artist’s continued interest and expression of the female experience.  As a “next chapter” after her series Dark Continents, symbolically illustrating female sexuality in all its capacities and cycles, Mental Maps looks deeper into the psychological and emotional aspects of women.  Font embroiders yarn, thread and found textiles onto the photographic surface creating a hybrid environment with a nod to meditation on process.  These black and white photographs of the female figure, together with a meticulous weaving of color and design, punctuate the various complexities of women’s thoughts and inner-workings. The laborious and time-consuming process is evident, and also points to traditional historic roles of women.  In many instances, a woman’s stream of consciousness is illuminated and / or manifested within the process of ritual, creating a spiritual element to the seemingly mundane.
