GAMeC – Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo was founded in 1991. The cultural policy proposed by the museum is diversified across its more than 1500 square metres of display area: temporary solo and joint exhibitions by international artists, unseen projects by up-and-coming artists, historically and artistically wide-ranging exhibitions, and projects for artists tied to the local area all provide opportunities for enjoyment to those interested in contemporary art and creativity
The purpose underlying the creation of GAMeC, which is partnered by the Accademia Carrara and the Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti, was to form a pole in the city dedicated to art. Since 2000 the Galleria has been managed by the Associazione per la GAMeC – onlus, whose founding members are the Municipality of Bergamo and TenarisDalmine, with Partners the Banca Popolare di Bergamo – Gruppo BPU Banca and Bonaldi
„Glass and Bone Sculptures 1977-2017“
May 13th to November 26th, 2017
Curated by: Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Katerina Koskina, Dimitri Ozerkov
The exhibition presents an unprecedented selection of over forty works in glass and bone produced by the Belgian artist over forty years of work, between 1977 and 2017 – artworks prompting a philosophical, spiritual and political reflection on life and death revolving around the crucial notion of metamorphosis. In Fabre’s works, glass and bone are used to create parts and compositions of human and animal bodies. In some cases the materials retain their natural colours, while in others they are coloured in blue Bic ink, a media that the artist has been using for years in his description of The Hour Blue, the twilight moment at the threshold of day and night marking the metamorphosis of natural time.
October 2nd to October 15th, 2017
Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Bergamo is pleased to present Solar Wind by Laurent Grasso, the winning project of the fifth MERU ART*SCIENCE AWARD, promoted in collaboration with the Fondazione MERU/Medolago-Ruggeri for biomedical research and the Associazione BergamoScienza to reward and support the work of an artist and aimed at underscoring the bond between art and science. Solar Wind – hosted in GAMeC’s Spazio Zero – is a video project that engages the viewer closely with the surface of the Sun. It aims to explore the ambivalent relationship between humans and the Sun, which represents a source of life but equally a potential danger. The fictional character of scientific discoveries related to solar storms and space meteorology has led Laurent Grasso – whose work revolves around concepts of science, faith and illusion – to delve into this subject for his research. In October 2015, the US authorities released their National Space Weather Action Plan, and this study promoting an active policy of research and development in the field of space meteorology on a global scale aroused international interest in these phenomena.
